Les visites locales

The Normandy beaches, town of Bayeaux (and its internationally famed tapestry), Le Mont St. Michel, local farms, zoo and typically French markets are all less than 30 minutes from our idyllic chateau setting. Groups normally spend two or three half days on excursions to any of these exciting destinations.

An animateur will accompany you on all your excursions and continue to encourage your group to speak French as much as possible.

Pupil workbooks add structure and organisation to each visit allowing you and your students to get the most out of your time away from the château.

In our immediate vicinity there is the amazing Mont st Michel and the historical town of Villedieu les Poelles with its market and copper foundry plus lovely local beaches and numerous markets.

Further afield in North Normandie there is the Bayeux tapestry and all of the North Normandie landing beach sites such as Arromances museum and 360 cinema plus of course the beaches themselves and the memorial sites.

Please find some brief details on the main visits that are in our area in the section below. This list is not exhaustive by any means and we can organise many other visits to cover any cross curriculum needs.

Château de la Baudonnière

Nestled in its own 100 acres

The Château is set in beautiful wooded grounds near a small village called Les Chambres (named because it was a place for pilgrims to overnight en route to nearby Mont Saint-Michel).

Château de la Baudonnière is situated in Lower Normandy at the base of the Cherbourg peninsula about 12 km north of the Cathedral city of Avranches. Find us at Château de la Baudonnière, Les Chambres 50320, La Haye-Pesnel, Normandie, France.

Most of our schoolstravel by coach via a ferry channel crossing or via Eurotunnel.

  • Brittany Ferries - Portsmouth to Caen and Cherbourg: These crossings offer the fastest transfer times as Château de la Baudonnière is between an hour and 1.5 hours from the ferry ports of Caen and Cherbourg.
  • Eurotunnel - offers the fastest channel crossing but a longer drive as Château de la Baudonnière is a 4.5-hour drive from Calais.
  • P&O Ferries - Dover - Calais: offers great value crossings for driving to Normandy. Château de la Baudonnière is a 4.5-hour drive from Calais.
