After leaving the port of Cherbourg take the D2 directions for le Mont St Michel and Rennes. As Cherbourg sits on the tip of a peninsular, there is only one main road that leaves it and it is difficult to miss it!
However, what is easy to miss is your first turn off which is about 17kms from port. You must look out for a sign on your right which at the top says D2 800 meters. This sign has no arrows and the one that does is right next to the turnoff, so it is easy to sail past it unless you have spotted the first sign.
Turn right off this slip-road onto a single track road to the major cathedral town of Coutances and this leg of the journey will take about one hour. Just keep following the Coutances signs.
You will eventually come to a sign for Coutances which takes you sharply to the right off the main road. Continue until you reach a roundabout where you take the turn-off to the left, again marked Coutances. Continue until you reach a major junction with traffic lights. Turn right and drive anti-clockwise around the old city wall road. You soon pass a BP Garage on your right and then come to a roundabout. Take the turn-off to the left following the signs for Gavray and La Haye-Pesnel. You will go under a viaduct.
Continue to Gavray (about 15 mins). Once you have passed through Gavray (over the bridge the road bears to the right), continue to and through La Haye-Pesnel (another 15 mins).
After La Haye Pesnel you climb a long hill. On the way down from this, drive slowly as you will shortly come to the crossroads called Le Grippon. Turn right here following the sign for Les Chambres.
As you come out of the village SLOW DOWN just past the signs indicating the end of ‘Les Chambres’ look out for a small road to the LEFT: this has a signpost to the Chateau turn on to this road. Continue along this narrow country lane for about 2 kms until you come to a white wooden fencing on your left. Pass the farm called La Baudonniere on your left and our drive is the next turning on the left.
If you have any problems telephone 02 33 60 46 95 and ask for Benedicte.
